Pedestrian Struck by Pick-Up Truck and Suffers “Grave” Injuries, Including Head Trauma

Filed under Pedestrian Accident, Traumatic Brain Injuries

Earlier this month in Las Vegas, a pedestrian was hit by a pick-up truck and sustained serious injuries, including head trauma and skull fractures. According to one local news report, the accident took place at a marked crosswalk at Lindell and Spring Mountain. The driver involved did remain on the scene and has been cooperating with police.

Evidently, the pedestrian was at a marked crosswalk, but it is unclear if she had activated the “walk” signal. Witnesses to the accident told police that the women seemed to have jumped from the curb, although that is not yet confirmed through the police investigation.

Regardless, the woman suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull and head trauma. At the time of the article’s publication, the victim was not yet responsive.

Head Trauma and Las Vegas Accidents
Pedestrian accidents are but one of many ways that someone can sustain head trauma or a traumatic brain injury. Even in accidents that do not seem as serious, there may be delayed effects when there is head trauma involved.

One recent article in the Huffington Post discussed how traumatic brain injuries in events such as pedestrian accidents are often misunderstood by the general public, and they are often not taken as seriously as they should be. The article explains that accident victims are often given a general diagnosis of a “concussion” and are told their symptoms should improve in the coming weeks. However, that is not always the case.

One slip-and-fall accident victim told reporters that she never experienced anxiety or depression prior to her fall, but after her accident, she is afraid to leave the house in fear of incurring another injury. She explains that she experiences “butterflies in her stomach” on a daily basis and has yet to see any appreciable improvement in her condition since the accident.

Others explain that they suffer from PTSD, constantly reliving the moments before the accident that changed their lives. They report uncontrollable spells of anger, fatigue, and frustration that they never experienced prior to being involved in a serious accident.

Seeking Recovery after an Accident
The most important thing to do in the wake of a serious accident is to seek the proper medical and psychiatric treatment in order to ensure whatever long-term effects the accident may have caused are minimized. However, once in a place of physical recovery, it is important to look into whether you may be entitled to financial recovery as well. In Las Vegas and across Nevada, innocent accident victims are entitled to recover for injuries sustained at the hands of negligent drivers and property owners. To learn more, contact an experienced Las Vegas injury attorney.

Have You Suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury?

If you or a loved one has recently been involved in any kind of accident that you believe may have resulted in head trauma or a traumatic brain injury, contact an experienced attorney as soon as possible. The long-term, lingering effects of head trauma often are not capable of being diagnosed immediately after an accident and require thorough treatment. Don’t be rushed into a settlement agreement with an eager insurance company without first discussing your legal rights with an advocate of your own.
